Additional Product Information
The Detroit Red Wings are one of the Origial Six, the 6 teams that formed the foundation of the NHL. Detroit Olympia Stadium, known as “The Old Red Barn,” opened in 1927 and became home to the Detroit Cougars of the NHL, which later became the Red Wings. With its steel frames, and red brick and terra cotta structure, Olympia was considered to be extremely sturdy. In fact, Olympia Stadium general manager, Lincoln Cavalieri once said, “…if an atom bomb landed, I’d want to be in Olympia.” The Red Wings played their final home game at Olympia in 1979 and the building was closed permanently in 1980. Its demolition took place in 1987. Many loyal Red Wings fans were sorry to see it go.
